Ingredients
Cake Ingredients
▪4 large eggs
▪½ cup brown sugar
▪1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
▪1/3 cup vegetable oil
▪1/3 cup orange juice
▪1 teaspoon vanilla extract
▪½ cup water
▪1 ¼ cups honey
▪2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
▪2 teaspoons kosher salt
▪1 teaspoon baking powder
▪½ teaspoon baking soda
Glaze Ingredients
▪1 ½ tablespoons water
▪1 teaspoon vanilla extract
▪¼ teaspoon kosher salt
▪1 cup confectioners’ sugar
Instructions
- Heat oven to 325 degrees and grease cake pan and lightly dust greased cake pan with flour.
- In a large bowl whisk egg, brown sugar, unsweetened applesauce, vegetable oil, orange juice, vanilla extract, and ½ cup water until combined.
- Slowly add honey to mixture while continuing to whisk.
- In a separate bowl whisk flour, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, baking powder, and baking soda until combined.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and whisk thoroughly.
- Pour batter into pan and bake for 50-60 minutes until the cake is a deep golden brown. The cake is done when a toothpick is inserted in the center and is removed with little crumb.
- Cool cake in pan on rack for 30 minutes. Invert cake from pan onto rack and cool for 2 additional hours.
- Whisk 1 ½ tablespoons water, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, and confectioners’ sugar for glaze.
- Pour glaze on cake and let it firm for 15 minutes. Slice and serve.
